Barbara Berman

Barbara Berman is a writer, activist, and supporter of the public arts. Her poetry and prose has appeared in The Village Voice, The Washington Post, The San Francisco Chronicle, The San Francisco Examiner, Gargoyle, Lilith, Coracle, Lit Hub, Poetica, 99 Poems for the 99 Per Cent, Narrative Northeast, The Rumpus and elsewhere. She is the author of a poetry chapbook, THE GENEROSITY OF STARS, from Finishing Line Press, and CURRENTS, a full length collection of poetry from THREE MILE HARBOR PRESS. She is currently at work on GOING LOCAL, her next book.
In the 1970s, she ran the poetry series at the Washington Women's Arts Center, featuring poets such as June Jordan, Adrienne Rich, Thulani Davis and Jessica Hagedorn. She also organized one of the first Independent Press festivals in the country. She has also served on the boards, juries and councils associated with the San Francisco Public Library, the California Book Awards, and Simply the Basics.
She has lived in San Francisco for 35 years, with her husband, Clifford Lee, an environmental lawyer.
