John Donne (1572 – 1631) was an English poet, and a priest in the Church of England. Commonly grouped with the “metaphysical poets,” Donne’s work is known for its elaborate metaphors, compact language, and focus on love, sex, philosophy, and the life of the spirit. “Nativity” should be read aloud, more than once.
